First postdoctoral position in Lyon
I moved to Lyon to work with Noam Libeskind and the CLUES collaboration on the HESTIA suite of Local Group simulations.
Exploring the Local Group from Lyon
In October 2019 I started a postdoctoral position at the Institut de Physique des deux Infinis collaborating with Noam Libeskind. Our focus is the recently completed HESTIA suite of high‑resolution simulations of the Local Group.
HESTIA provides exquisitely detailed simulated analogues of the Milky Way—Andromeda system and its satellite population. From my perspective, this is an ideal environment in which to connect my earlier work on satellite galaxies and warm dark matter to a more realistic representation of the Local Group as a whole. In particular I am interested in understanding how the more complete modelling of the Local Group environment affects the stellar populations of the dwarf galaxies.
Life in Lyon
In addition to being the first step in my (employed) academic career, it’s also the first time I’ve moved abroad for work. I’m looking forward to experiencing French culture at close quarters and brushing up on my linguistic skills. The last time I studied French I was still in school!
