Short-term fellowship at Liverpool John Moores University

A brief return to the UK to work at the Astrophysics Research Institute in Liverpool with Rob Crain.

Globular clusters and merger histories

Following the early conclusion of my postdoc in Lyon I now back to the UK. In January 2022 I joined the Astrophysics Research Institute at Liverpool John Moores University for a short‑term position, working with Rob Crain and collaborators.

Our aim is to understand how globular cluster populations are affected by the merger histories of massive galaxies. Globular clusters are ancient stellar systems, formed very early in the Universe, and their present‑day distribution carries signatures of:

  • The timing and mass ratios of major mergers,
  • The accretion of lower‑mass satellites,
  • The interplay between dark‑matter structure and baryonic physics.

Using genetically modified cosmological simulations coupled to semi‑analytic models of globular cluster formation and disruption, we will explore how the global properties of cluster populations encode the evolutionary histories of their host galaxies.

A return to the UK (briefly)

While this move is a somewhat sudden return to the UK I’m looking forward to meeting new colleagues at ARI and living in and experiencing life in Liverpool over the coming months.
